The Local Government Unit of Burgos, Ilocos Sur headed by Mayor Annabelle Filart Escobar, proudly joined the nation in commemorating the 128th Philippine Independence Day with the theme Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan through a solemn flag raising ceremony held on June 12, 2026, highlighting the spirit of patriotism, unity, and remembrance of the sacrifices of the country’s heroes.

The activity was attended by the Municipal Officials headed by Vice Mayor Riolita R. Balbalan, MLGOO Engr. Isidora E. Vendiola, municipal employees, personnel of the Burgos Municipal Police Station led by Acting Chief of Police PCPT Allan O Reoliquio, members of the Burgos Fire Station headed by Municipal Fire Marshall SFO4 Archival R Patao, personnel of the DOH stationed within the Municipality, the 26 Punong Barangays led by Liga ng mga Barangay President PB. Lourdes D. Escobar together with their respective barangay officials, SK Chairpersons led by SK Federation President Claudine Laine C. Tamayo and other distinguished visitors.




The ceremony commenced with the singing of the Philippine National Anthem, followed by the recitation of the Bagong Pilipinas Pledge, the singing of the Ilocos Sur Hymn, the Burgos Hymn, and “Ako ay Pilipino,” reflecting the participants’ shared commitment to uphold love of country and public service.
During the program, Vice Mayor Riolita R. Balbalan delivered an inspirational message emphasizing the significance of the places that symbolize the birth of Philippine independence, the historic site where independence was declared and the place where the Philippine flag was first unfurled. She reminded everyone that the freedom Filipinos enjoy today is a legacy built through courage, unity, and the unwavering dedication of those who came before.
Mayor Annabelle F. Escobar expressed her heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated in the celebration. She emphasized the importance of unity and shared her vision of a community strengthened by cooperation, solidarity, and a common dream of progress for the Municipality of Burgos.
The program concluded with the closing remarks delivered by MLGOO Engr. Isidora E. Vendiola, who encouraged everyone to continue honoring the nation’s independence by actively participating in community development and promoting good citizenship.
After the flag raising ceremony, a wreath laying ceremony in honor of Father Jose Burgos was conducted. The activity was participated in by all attendees as a gesture of respect and remembrance for one of the country’s great Filipino heroes whose life and sacrifices contributed to the awakening of national consciousness and the pursuit of freedom.
