The Local Government Unit of Burgos headed by Mayor Annabelle Filart Escobar through the Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Council conducted its observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDADAIT) with this year’s theme, “World Drug Problem: Persisting Issues, New Challenges, Innovative Responses,”..

The activity was attended by Municipal Local Government Operations Officer (MLGOO) Engr. Isidora E. Vendiola, Municipal Employees, and personnel from the Burgos Municipal Police Station (MPS), who gathered in support of the municipality’s commitment to promote a drug-free and safer community.
During the program, a message from Municipal Mayor Annabelle F. Escobar was delivered through her representative, Mr. Glenn A. Directo, Secretary to the Sangguniang Bayan, emphasizing the importance of unity and active participation among government offices, law enforcement agencies, and the community in preventing and combating the adverse effects of drug abuse.


The event also featured an informative lecture conducted by personnel from the Philippine National Police (PNP), focusing on the dangers of illegal drug use, its impact on individuals and communities, and the shared responsibility of everyone in creating a safer environment.
One of the highlights of the celebration was the signing of the Pledge of Commitment, where participants expressed their support and dedication toward strengthening drug prevention initiatives and promoting a healthy, productive, and drug-free society.

To further amplify the advocacy, participants joined a Fun Walk around Poblacion Norte, Burgos, Ilocos Sur, serving as a public awareness activity to encourage community involvement and spread the message of vigilance and commitment against illegal drugs.
